Student Seniority Ranking: # ??

Key word: Spirit

Mark was attending the University of Alberta when he heard that his father’s cousin had returned to Edmonton and was teaching traditional karate. He liked the idea of karate because of the physical exercise and personal development associated with the body, mind and spirit. Learning self defense also appealed to him. Looking beyond the family factor, Mark states that he joined the school primarily because of the experience and competence of its instructors.

University flashed by and was quickly replaced with work. Work demands and graduate studies soon took Mark from the dojo and Alberta for a few years. Upon settling back in Edmonton, he rekindled his enthusiasm for karate and quickly resumed classes. Mark identifies the key factor that has sustained his study over time as the challenge that comes with always learning and developing the art- perseverance.

Mark is an important member of the dojo and his presence is never far away. He can always be counted on to be a respectful and hard working partner; an encouraging and patient teacher; as well as an enthusiastic participant in our various social events. New and seasoned students alike are drawn to Mark by his enthusiasm, friendliness, sincerity and hearty laugh.

Professionally, Mark is a fresh water biologist who is employed by an Edmonton based private consultant. When he is not away working on a project, he is at the school soaking up what he says he values the most- learning, friendship and entertainment!
