All students, regardless of age, gender, skill
and rank, are valued and respected for their unique contributions to the fabric of our
school. As individuals, it is accepted that students learn at different rates and in
different manners.
Karate is an art which can only be understood
over time, through the liberal application of perseverance and effort. Through the
internalization of these qualities and with the support of karate peers and seniors, the
student becomes self-motivated.
The Okinawan word "Choregwa"
embodies the bonding, trust and respect that defines relationships among traditional
Shohei-Ryu practitioners. Neil Dunnigan's School of Karate is committed to not only
excellence in training, but also to the development of the spirit of the Choregwa.
The foundation of traditional karate is built
on the understanding and mastery of physical movement, yet its depth and substance comes
from the simultaneous development of one's mind and spirit. Understanding and integrating
the lessons of body, mind and spirit is central to one's learning.
